What Is NV Rides?
NV Rides is a program that increases the capacity of community groups to provide volunteer driver-related programs. NV Rides uses a centralized hub and software driven ride scheduler. This web-based scheduler provides one-stop scheduling coordination for volunteer drivers, and it makes it easy to serve non-driving seniors with convenient, door-to-door transportation.
How is Herndon Village Network involved with NV Rides?
Herndon Village Network (HVN) is a participating member of NV Rides. HVN registers members and volunteer drivers willing to participate in the program. Drivers undergo a free background check and participate as little or as much as they want, depending on their own schedules.
In addition to providing the web-based software, NV Rides is helping HVN and other organizations who are starting volunteer driver programs. NV Rides provides marketing and outreach support as well as the opportunity for organizations to collaborate with and learn from similar community groups. The NV Rides Manager, Jennifer Kanarek, can be reached at 703-537-3071 or jenniferk@thej.org.
How does it work?
Herndon residents who are 55 or older, who reside in zip code 20170, and who have joined Herndon Village Network (HVN) call to request rides. The HVN Rides Coordinator enters that request into the web-based ride scheduler. Volunteer drivers see the request online, and they accept the ride requests if they are available. The volunteer drivers contact the seniors and coordinate the rides.
