Driver Spotlight
With an impressive record of 55 rides (and counting) provided to our members since joining HVN just this past April, Perry G is the subject of this month’s HVN Driver Spotlight!
After retiring from a career as an “IT guy” for a few Datacom companies, Perry was looking for an opportunity to “give back” to the community—and lucky for us, he found Herndon Village Network!
As many of our members who have learned as they’ve enjoyed the company of a ride with Perry, he is friendly and enjoys meeting and chatting with them. He gets a sense of satisfaction from helping a neighbor get somewhere they need to be, especially if they have no other transportation alternative available to them.
To prospective drivers, Perry says this: “Drive a lot and get some experience.”
But, he warns, “Be careful about believing the Google Maps—sometimes they are not right but they are definitely a help.” Good tip, Perry—and a reminder that drivers should always check to make sure they understand the directions RideScheduler provides via Google Maps to see if they make sense before any ride they accept. If something seems off, check it again through another source, if possible.
Perry sums up his experience as a volunteer with a sentiment common to many of our drivers: “You are getting more than you are giving,” while at the same time, he confesses that driving for HVN “keeps me off the street.” Well, well…aren’t we’re glad to hear that! (WINK!)
Thanks Perry for your commitment to Herndon Village Network!
And thank you to all of our volunteers for your dedication to our mission as “neighbors helping neighbors, one ride at a time!” Without you, there would be no Herndon Village Network.
